Murphy voices support as Ken Jones Fund Grows

Torfaen MP Paul Murphy has again voiced his support for the appeal to build a statue in Blaenavon to commemorate Olympic athlete and Wales and Lions rugby legend Ken Jones. Thanks to the support of donors and The Free Press’s energetic campaign, the fund now stands at well over £10,000 and the statue design has been chosen.

Paul Murphy said: “The support the fund has been getting shows how proud local people are of Ken’s achievements, and how he is fondly remembered across Wales and beyond. Blaenavon people are rightly proud of their town’s heritage, and Ken Jones is an important part of that. The chosen design captures the speed and skill of Ken perfectly.”

“I hope these plans can be a part of showing Blaenavon’s young people that, with commitment and hard work, there is no limit to what they can achieve. I’d encourage anyone who can spare the money for a donation to make cheques out to ‘Ken Jones Memorial Fund’ and post them to Lewis Freeman at 52 Thornhill Close, Upper Cwmbran, Torfaen, NP44 5TQ.”
